ELDERBERRY SYRUP

A staple and beloved herbal ally used to support the immune system at the first sign of colds and flu. Stay strong and healthy everyone. ⚡️

Ingredients:
1/2 cup dried elderberries
2 Tbsp dried echinacea root (optional)
4 cups water
1 Tbsp dried cut ginger
A few cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
2 Tbsp dried rose hips (optional)
1 cup honey

Directions:
Place everything except honey in a pot.
Bring to a low simmer until liquid is reduced by half.
Strain herbs (save the pulp for part two).
Return liquid to pot and stir in honey.
Heat very gently on lowest heat possible just until honey melts (high heat can kill the beneficial enzymes in honey).
Pour into clean jar, lid, and label.
Take 2 tsp every 3-4 hrs at first sign of illness.
Store in fridge (should last 1-2 months)

BONUS Part 2 (Elderberry Tonic):
Pour leftover pulp in clean glass jar and cover with apple cider vinegar. Let steep for one month in a dark place, shaking occasionally. Top off vinegar in the jar as needed to ensure herbs are covered. Strain and use as a vinegar for salads, take as an immune boosting shot, or add a tbsp to tea or water.
